On International Women’s Day, the New Brunswick Federation of Labour says more work is needed because equality is not yet a reality for many women and girls in this province.
The federation says too many women are still facing sexual harassment and violence in their homes, communities and workplaces and in different ways.
Indigenous women and women with disabilities experience higher rates of harassment and violence.
In 2016, the New Brunswick Federation of Labour says provincial women earned 92 cents for every dollar earned by men.
They say wage discrimination happens no matter the level of education or whether women are working full-time or part-time.
Access to quality and affordable child care is another challenge facing women in New Brunswick.
The Federation of Labour calls on everyone to join the fight to end pay inequity, violence and harassment against women and to improve access for affordable and quality child care so women can have more economic security in the province.
