The canteen and washroom at Dominion Park is being demolished.
The City of Saint John will be tearing down the building beginning this Tuesday and is expecting to complete it this week.
In a release, the city said the building was damaged beyond repair due to flooding from the past two years. This also prevented the city from making some improvements.
A community meeting was held in January to brainstorm ideas for Dominion Park which included upgrades to the canteen as well as a possible move out of the flood zone.
Two of the big projects for Dominion Park include the upgrade on the canteen facilities, as well as a new playground for the site.
Other ideas discussed at the meeting in January included adding in designated fire pits, improving road safety and infrastructure so more pedestrians and cyclists can access the park, and increasing mobility access to the beach.
There’s no word yet on what will be the first of upgrades to Dominion Park.
There will be temporary washroom facilities in place for this year’s beach season.
