Within two years, motorists on Route 1 could see wind turbines on their daily commute.
Saint John Energy and Natural Forces are working together on the Burchill Wind project in Lorneville, which could have up to 10 wind turbines.
For anyone travelling on King William Road in Lorneville heading toward the Coleson Cove Generating Station, the wind farm is set to be built on the vacant land on the right.
Saint John Energy vice-president Ryan Mitchell said if the approvals are obtained, Natural Forces could start construction by this summer with the project operational late next year or early in 2022.
“If the largest project goes ahead, about 15 per cent of our energy requirement would be sourced by the local wind project,” said Mitchell.
Natural Forces has an open house on the Burchill Wind project scheduled for Tuesday at the Lorneville Community Centre from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
