It is tax time in Canada. You have until the end of April to file.
Paul Murphy, a spokesperson with the Canada Revenue Agency, said there is a new tax credit available to some.
“There’s a credit called the Canada Worker’s Benefit. It’s an enhancement to the old Worker’s Income Tax Benefit. What it does is if you have working income but low income, individuals can receive up to $1,355,” said Murphy.
Murphy said you can now follow Canada Revenue Agency’s processing of your taxes when you file this year.
“If you sent in your tax return or an adjustment request, you can go online to see roughly how long that’s going to take to be processed,” said Murphy.
The CRA is still giving Canadians the option of paper forms to file their taxes.
Anyone who used the forms this last year was automatically mailed them this year.
Murphy said electronic filing is now the most popular method.
“Last year, around 90 per cent of Canadians filed electronically, either by themselves or going to a tax preparer. That’s still the first choice for most people. It’s fast, it’s safe, it’s free, it’s secure.”
Murphy said Canadians can expect to receive their refund in as little as eight days by filing electronically.
