The president and CEO of Sobeys says they are working hard to keep shelves stocked in the face of “unprecedented demand” for products.
In a statement Monday, Michael Medline said they have great confidence in the robust grocery and food supply chain in Canada.
“Our tremendous retail and warehouse teams are working around the clock to keep our stores safe and restock our shelves,” he said.
Medline said they are taking steps to keep people healthy, which include additional cleaning efforts and scrapping all in-store sampling.

Grocery store chain Loblaw said it is also beefing up sanitization practices, thoroughly cleaning high-touch areas like checkouts, cooler doors, and pharmacy counters three times a day.
The company is also eliminating PC Express pick-up fees and bringing down the price of home-delivered items.
“We know the frustration of an empty shelf and have assigned an entire team to the challenge of rapidly re-stocking key food, health, cleaning and comfort items,” said Galen Weston, executive chairman of Loblaw.
“As they do so, our commitment is that you will continue to find the same value-for-money in our stores, no matter what happens in the coming weeks.”
