Ontario has recorded its first death related to the coronavirus.
Health Minister Christine Elliot says a 77-year-old man has died in the Muskoka area.
“COVID-19 was detected in their system post-death. This person had been in close contact with another person who was also positive for COVID-19,” said Elliot.
“The matter, at our request, is now being investigated by the Coroner’s Office, to determine whether this person passed away because of COVID-19 or with COVID-19.”
She is expecting the autopsy results sometime Wednesday.
“This person had other physical problems that may have caused the death, we just don’t know yet, and that’s why we need the coroner.”
There have been four confirmed deaths so far in Canada, all in British Columbia.
