Fredericton police say a sudden death in a park on the south side of the city is now being treated as a homicide.
Emergency crews were called to Wilmot Park at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a man lying on the ground.
Police said the man had sustained “significant injuries” and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Visible injuries were inconsistent with a death caused by natural or self-inflicted means. At this time, we do not believe a firearm was involved,” said police in a news release.
Police said the victim, who has not been identified, is in his 20s or 30s. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
No arrests have been made and the investigation continues.
Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the park between 8 a.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday is asked to call the Fredericton Police Force at (506) 460-2300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
