As New Brunswick moves through its recovery plan, the province’s public library service is preparing for the safe reopening of its 64 libraries.
Libraries will begin opening in the coming weeks, but each must have standards in place to protect staff and patrons. Initially, services will be limited to returning and picking up books, CDs, and DVDs.
Director of operations, Ella Nason, says people will only be able to stay in the library for a short period of time, to pick an item and check it out
She says they are starting with circulation and will expand services to include programming, reference services and computer services as soon as it is possible to do so safely.
“Staff are excited to get back to work this week and get their libraries ready,” says Nason, “We want to make sure they are well-prepared to reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
Additionally, the system’s online services will continue.
