The Saint John YMCA has reopened its doors for the Y Child Care and After School program.
Children were allowed to return starting Tuesday, but that is still the only program available at the Y facility.
President and CEO of the Saint John Y, Shilo Boucher, says employees have been working diligently behind the scenes to make sure services are ready to be up and running as soon as provincial guidelines permit it.
“Our team’s been working on it for the past month, to make sure when they gave us the ‘OK’ we could open our child-care centers,” Boucher said.
She says parents have expressed excitement with the reopening.
So far, the Y doesn’t have a date for a reopening of its other facilities, and many questions remain as to what preparation will be required.
“The big question mark is how many people will they allow in our facility,” she said.
The Y staff have made some strides already for reopening when guidelines allow.
“We’ve already determined spacing, and how to do social distancing on fitness floors. We can manage through that,” Boucher said.
With the province announcing its yellow phase of recovery will begin on Friday, the Y is likely another step closer to reopening more facilities.
