An investigation continues into the source of a new COVID-19 case in New Brunswick.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Russell announced the additional case yesterday, an individual under the age of 19 in the Campbellton area.
She says a daycare in Zone 5 has been closed until further notice and family and staff have been notified as part of the contact tracing process.
New Brunswick has had a total of 121 diagnosed cases of COVID-19, with all but one recovered.
Dr. Russell says even with Phase three moving forward, New Brunswickers need to remain vigilant, “Because we have cases all around us on all of our borders with the exception of PEI, we really have to continue to move very carefully because this is a global pandemic and until it is over, we are going to be in this position.”
She says there will be more cases, “Where people have these new freedoms it is really important that people understand the risks and that everyone still act as if they have COVID-19. They have to continue to act as though COVID-19 is still circulating in our province and will continue to do so while outside our borders still have cases.”
Dr. Russell says the pandemic is not over. “We must continue taking all of the precautions necessary to protect themselves and their loved ones. People can be still be contagious and spread COVID-19 up to two days before they have symptoms and feel sick. We don’t have a lot of active cases right now, but it is still possible to have asymptomatic transmission. Please limit your close contacts at all times, especially with those who are more vulnerable to getting the virus.”
New Brunswickers should keep washing their hands regularly and thoroughly, don’t forget to disinfect commonly touched surfaces in their homes, avoid touching their face, maintain two metres of distance from others, keep contact numbers and when unable to socially distance, wear a mask that covers the mouth and nose.
