The pandemic has made many companies go through digital transformations.
Cathy Simpson, CEO of TechImpact in Saint John, said she looked at five different challenges the tech sector is facing.
“What’s the available capital for these companies to be able to draw on, how has their revenue been impacted, what’s the state of talent and human resources, what operational impacts are they having, and what’s their ability to keep building and producing,” she said.
Simpson said startups are having a hard time finding capital, but e-commerce efforts have been helping buy local attempts.
“While many of these tech companies had an existing group of sales customers, finding new customers has basically come to a halt,” she said.
Simpson said she has seen some tremendous stories and she knows there can be more of that.
“This industry leads the way in working remotely. We didn’t see that same sort of challenge that happened because we had so many who did work remotely already and they had that capability,” she said.
Simpson said it shows us we need to work on the digital divide we’ve been shown.
