New Brunswick is reporting a third active case of COVID-19 in the Campbellton region and it is related to the other two active cases in the area.
As a result, Public Health is putting the Campbellton Zone 5 region back into the Orange phase of the recovery.
The rest of the province will remain in the Yellow phase.
Premier Blaine Higgs says the latest case is travel-related and he calls the individual “irresponsible”.
“This is a situation where a medical professional, who travelled to Quebec for personal reasons, was not forthcoming about their reasons for travel upon returning to New Brunswick and they did not self-isolate as a result,” he says.
The medical professional, between 50 and 59 years old, works at the Campbellton Hospital and contact tracing is underway.
Chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell is concerned since the individual works in health care and likely had significant contact with the community.
For that reason, Dr. Russell believes more cases will emerge in the days to come.
She adds that anyone can seek testing for COVID-19 in Zone 5 even if they don’t have symptoms and mobile testing will set up in affected communities.
The previous two confirmed cases in the Campbellton region include an individual over 90 and another individual under 19.
Premier Higgs says this latest case is evidence that public health guidelines must still be followed otherwise you put your family, friends and fellow New Brunswickers at risk.
