The efforts of two Saint John police officers helped save the life of a woman 1,300 kilometres away in Ontario.
It all started Tuesday afternoon when the Saint John Public Safety Communications Centre received a call from Kids Help Phone.
They said a suicidal woman was texting them saying she was going to jump from the building where she works.
“The original call was showing an address in Saint John but when officers checked the location, the building was vacant,” said police in a release.
Const. Neil Savary contacted the woman and began speaking with her while his partner, Const. Shanda Weir, confirmed the address of the call was in Peel, Ont.
Weir contacted Peel Regional Police while Savary continued to talk with the woman so officers could have time to respond.
“After an hour of speaking with the woman, Constable Savary was able to convince her to step away from the ledge of the building where she was assisted by Peel Regional Police officers,” said police.
Chief Stephan Drolet of the Saint John Police Force said the “tremendous team effort” by his two constables resulted in a life being saved.
“It is great to see officers from two different provinces working together in collaboration and being able to make a difference,” said Drolet.
