Atlantic Canadians are very satisfied with their governments right now.
The latest poll from Narrative Research shows the majority of people right across the region approve of the federal Liberals.
CEO Margaret Brigley says the numbers are consistent with those they found for the provincial governments.
“It really has shown that, during a crisis of this magnitude, a governing party, regardless of whether they’re provincial or federal, they really are in a position of strength from a satisfaction perspective. So, residents have really rallied around their leadership.
Support for the federal Liberal Party is up to 60%, while the Conservatives dropped to 21%, the NDP has fallen to 10%, the Green Party received 7% support, while the People’s Party of Canada stands at 1%.
One-quarter of voters in Atlantic Canadian voters are undecided, while 5% refused to say who they support, and 3% don’t plan on voting.
Brigley says that, although we’re in uncharted waters, politically, it’s not surprising to see satisfaction rise.
She says leaders are in the forefront with the public, who see them at daily briefings.
“And, also, they really have an opportunity to connect with Canadians in a way that they don’t always have. So, we get to see them emotional about emotional topics, for instance, and really share concern on very serious and heartfelt topics.”
Half of Atlantic Canadians say they prefer Justin Trudeau, a significant jump from the previous quarter, while Andrew Scheer dropped to 13%, Jagmeet Singh fell to 11%, the Green Party’s Jo-Ann Roberts received 5% of preferences, and Maxime Bernier held steady at 2%
Brigley says ten per cent of Atlantic Canadians have no preference and 5% don’t prefer any of them.
