The emergency department at the Campbellton Regional Hospital will continue to remain closed until early next week given the cluster of COVID-19 cases in the region (Zone 5).
Vitalite Health says the move is necessary since a health care professional who worked at the hospital has tested positive for the virus and had been in contact with about 50 employees.
Non-urgent and elective services have also been temporarily cancelled in Campbellton.
“For the moment, a lot of our resources are dedicated to screening our employees who are the most at risk so that the facility can safely resume its normal activities as quickly as possible,” stated Gilles Lanteigne, Vitalite President and CEO.
“We are quite aware of the concerns and of the inconvenience resulting from such measures, but we would like to reiterate that everything is being done to resolve the situation.”
Two mobile testing sites are now set up in the Restigouche region where anyone can make an appointment whether they have symptoms of COVID-19 or not.
Vitalite Health confirms the employee at the centre of the outbreak has been suspended.
