The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has set Oct. 1 as their targeted start date for the 2020-21 season.
League officials made the announcement during a news conference on Tuesday.
“This is a positive announcement by the league, however, we do understand that there are still many factors to be determined and considered before we can begin selling season seats,” said a statement released by the Moncton Wildcas.
The team said physical distancing will be a key priority and they are waiting to hear from the province what those guidelines will be.
“We are currently working with the QMJHL on developing a Return to Play Protocol for the 2020-2021 season in order to ensure a safe return for our players, staff members and fans, in compliance with Public Health guidelines,” said the statement.
The Saint John Sea Dogs had not yet released a statement as of Tuesday evening.
The 2019-20 season was suspended on March 12 due to the pandemic and cancelled five days later.
