The Saint John Sea Dogs have taken Leighton Carruthers with the third overall pick in the 2020 QMJHL entry draft.
In a press release, the Sea Dogs describe Carruthers as a power forward who brings size and speed to the team. The maritimer hails from Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia.
With their second pick in the first round, Saint John bolstered their back-end with defenseman Nathan Drapeau from Mont-Joli, Quebec.
“Welcome Leighton and Nathan to the Sea Dogs family. We think both players bring a specific skill set to our team,” said Sea Dogs President and General Manager Trevor Georgie.
The league completed the first round of its first virtual entry draft on Friday evening. The draft continues Saturday, as the Sea Dogs have 10 more picks over the final 13 rounds.
