The Saint John Sea Dogs had a busy weekend, making 12 draft picks in the 2020 QMJHL entry draft, to go along with six trades.
With two picks in the first round, the Sea Dogs picked up power forward Leighton Carruthers, and defenseman Nathan Drapeau.
With their third selection, Saint John grabbed left wing Simon Hughes at the bottom of the second round, before grabbing goalie Michael D’Orazio four picks later.
The Sea Dogs worked the trade phones on Saturday, completing six trades.
Most of the deals were for picks, but the team added veteran overager goalie Carmine-Anthony Pagliarulo from Chicoutimi in exchange for a seventh round pick.
The Dogs also moved their 2018-19 leading scorer Maxim Cajkovic and a late pick to Val-D’or for four additional draft picks.
The 19-year-old Cajkovic was drafted to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL last year. He had 40 goals and 88 points in 96 games over the past two years with the Sea Dogs.
