New Brunswick Public Health is reporting nine new cases of COVID-19 today which is the largest number of new cases in a single day in two months.
All of the cases are in the Campbellton region, Zone 5, which now has 24 active cases of the virus.
The new cases are as follows:
- two individuals in their 60’s
- four individuals in their 70’s
- one individual in their 80’s
- two individuals in their 90’s
Chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell says eight individuals are residents of Manoir de la Vallee in Atholville and five residents from the long term care home are in hospital and all are in stable condition.
Dr. Russell says 14 residents and three staff members at Manoir de la Vallee have become infected over the last two weeks and one resident has died.
One additional case today has been confirmed elsewhere in Zone 5 which Dr. Russell says is being investigated and contact tracing is underway.
“Given COVID-19’s 14-day incubation period, we realize that new cases can and will appear,” said Dr. Russell. “It may be a week or more before we can say with certainty that the virus is not present in other regions of New Brunswick from this outbreak. It is so important that all New Brunswickers remain vigilant against the spread of COVID-19.”
She estimates about 300 people in Zone 5 are self-isolating right now and any one of them could test positive.
As of today, 34,400 tests have been conducted across the province.
