Many families who have been separated for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic may now be reunited.
The federal government says immediate family members of citizens or permanent residents can enter the country as of midnight Monday night.
In a release, the government said it has been looking at ways to keep families together while respecting the need for border measures.
Immediate family members include spouses, common-law partners, dependent children and their children, and parents.
Those who enter Canada will have to quarantine for 14 days and must stay here for at least 15 days.
Anyone who has COVID-19 or exhibits any signs or symptoms will not be allowed to enter the country.
Meanwhile, the Canada-U.S. border remains closed to all non-essential travel until at least June 21.
