There were calls in the Legislature Wednesday afternoon to reopen Campbellton from its MLA.
Guy Arsenault, Campbellton-Dalhousie MLA, said residents in Zone 5 were told they can travel for work, essential services and other reasons.
“However, we are hearing many stories of businesses in other healthcare zones who are asking for identification and refusing the residents of Zone 5 from entering their premises. ‘Mr. Speaker, does the premier find this kind of discrimination acceptable in New Brunswick?,'” Arsenault said.
Premier Blaine Higgs said he doesn’t like discrimination of any kind.
“But, we are all conscious of the fact that we all have to abide by certain rules, certain containment philosophies in order to minimize the risk to the many. I am hopeful that the area will get up and running as soon as possible but, we do have a few weeks to go,” Higgs said.
Higgs said Zone 5 needs a period of time without any cases to join the rest of the province in the yellow phase.
