Proposed amendments to the Early Childhood Services Act might make it easier for parents to find childcare.
These proposed amendments to the Early Childhood Services Act address suitability of employees and the requirement of criminal record checks for employees who interact with children.
“The proposed amendments were designed the way amendments should be designed: based on operational experience and best practice,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Dominic Cardy.
“Taking steps to address gaps in the existing legislation will better enable the act to live up to its purpose and goals.”
It would also give the minister authority to immediate authority to revoke a license, and ensure operational safeguards for re-licensing.
Other amendments would make it possible to develop an online registry to connect parents looking for childcare with operators who have space.
“Ensuring our children can receive services in a healthy, safe and inclusive environment is not optional, it is an absolute necessity.”
