A Nova Scotia band has released another song in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Stanfields released “Stay the Blazes Home” in April; their latest single is called “Pick up the Phone.”
Jon Landry, the group’s lead singer, said their goal is to get people talking if they feel overwhelmed.
“There’s an awful lot in the world going on right now,” he said. “It’s a lot to process, especially when you’re in forced isolation, even when things are starting to open up a little bit.”
Landry said “Pick up the Phone”, a light-hearted, spiritual follow-up to “Stay the Blazes Home”, took a matter of weeks to put together.
He said there’s been plenty to think about during the shutdown.
“It all has a knock-on effect on mental health, even at the best of times,” he said. “We’re hoping that it would inspire people to reach out if they need help, or conversely, inspire people to reach out to someone who they think needs the help.”
Landry said they’re donating all proceeds from the song’s downloads, as they did with “Stay the Blazes Home.”
He said this time they’re supporting the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
