Saint John council has given the green light for a new 89-unit apartment building in Millidgeville.
The five-storey building will be located on Arlington Crescent, just off University Avenue near the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Phil Ouellette, deputy commissioner of growth and community services, described the project — dubbed Arlington Place — as a “major development” for the area during a council meeting Monday night.
The building is part of a three-phase development on Arlington Crescent, which is already home to a 24-unit condo building and 14 townhouses.
City staff have set out several conditions to address sanitary sewer limitations in the University Avenue area.
They include requiring written permission from Saint John Water before any further developments can proceed on the undeveloped lots off Arlington Crescent.
“Once Saint John Water completes their detailed analysis, which is currently underway, on the downstream sanitary sewer system and excess flow capacity availability is determined, additional development in the neighbourhood can once more be considered,” staff wrote in a report to council.
All tenant parking would be located underground and the applicant, John Rocca, said he has an agreement to buy more land nearby for visitor parking.
