1800 graduates between Sussex and Campobello Island getting their diplomas this week in a new way.
The process looks different because of COVID-19 and the need to adhere to physical distancing protocols.
Anglophone South superintendent Zoe Watson attended several ceremonies in the district.
On Wednesday night, she attended a drive-in style ceremony located behind Belleisle Regional High.
“People stayed in their cars and graduates’ names were read. Graduates would get out of their cars and receive their awards and diploma from the principal,” Watson said.
Watson heard positive feedback from both students and families on the various interpretations of graduation.

Ceremonies were put together using different platforms including school steps which was the case at Harbour View high school in Saint John.
“At various landings along the stairs, they had locations where families could have pictures and then they had a life-size cutout of the school principal,” Watson said.

Some schools opted to share videos including speeches from their valedictorians and to announce award winners while others were live-streamed.
Graduation class sizes range in size from a mere six on Campobello Island to more than 200 students at Kennebecasis Valley High.
