Tourist communities like Shediac are going to have to rely more on New Brunswickers this summer to support their businesses.
An Atlantic travel bubble may soon be possible but visitors from Quebec, Ontario and the U.S. may not be able to visit until later in the summer.
Year-round businesses are making adjustments with Public Health requiring new pandemic guidelines, and some seasonal operators have had time to prepare to make those changes.
But Shediac Mayor Roger Caissie says some seasonal businesses may decide not to reopen this year.
“We’ll have some that will say ‘no I’m not going to open this year, these conditions just don’t work for my business’. As a result, I hope to see them again the following year when conditions permit,” he says.
With only New Brunswick visitors guaranteed right now, Caissie says that’s where they are focusing their marketing efforts.
