Now that it’s motorcycle season, it’s a good time for riders to make sure they’re in good shape for the road.
Sergeant Mario Maillet is the unit commander for tactical traffic enforcement unit with the New Brunswick RCMP.
He said riders should check over protective gear in order and bikes.
“All motorists on the road should abide by the rules of the road to drive safely, be aware of your surroundings, especially now vehicles out there to make sure to keep an eye out for motorcyclists,” he said.
Maillet said helmets protect against serious injury and death and if not worn, may warrant a fine by police.
“If someone is driving dangerously, either motorcyclists or any other vehicle or there is a suspected impaired driver, we really suggest and recommend people to call 9-1-1. You know at the end of the day that could save a life,” he said.
Maillet said speeding and distracted driving are major factors in collisions especially with extra vehicles on the road.
“So at the end of the day, you know, everyone that’s out on the road has an important role to play to make sure that our roads are safe.”
