The Atlantic Wildlife Institute has taken to social media to express its outrage over a moose who drowned at Parlee Beach this week.
The Department of Natural Resources told our newsroom reports of a moose roaming the beach were received on Monday afternoon.
This is the same moose they were monitoring earlier in the day in the Shediac Bay area.
When officials arrived, the animal was swimming about 500 metres offshore. A boat was used to try and guide the moose towards shore, but he grew tired and began going underwater.
In a post on Facebook, the AWI directed its anger towards beachgoers, stating the moose was stressed and was trying to find a way out of the area away from the beach and water chaos. As a result, it drowned trying to get away.
The institute added the hashtags Beyond Furious and Leave Wildlife alone.
