28 Uptown Saint John businesses are taking part in a raffle to support documenting the black history of Saint John and New Brunswick.
Emily Saab, co-owner of Visitors on Union Street, took part in the recent Black Lives Matter rally in Saint John.
“Just the past month of rallies and demonstrations have been a call to action for us as a business. Although we wish we had been helping with the fight our whole lives, we are here now and we really can’t continue with business as usual,” Saab said.
All proceeds will support the New Brunswick Black History Society, an affiliate of PRUDE Inc.
“….the society has been in operation for the last decade and is run by Ralph Thomas,” Saab said.
During the first three days of sales, 400 raffle tickets were sold.
Saab said the goal is to raise $10,000 for the New Brunswick Black History Society.
Tickets can be purchased at uptown businesses including Heroes’ Beacon, the Corn Crib, the Saint John Tool Library. the Art Warehouse, Riff Raff Skate Shop and the Urban Shoe Myth.
The draw for the raffle will be held on Saturday, June 27th which Saab said will have multiple winners.
