A Moncton woman battling breast cancer for a second time says she’s been overwhelmed by the community generosity as she takes part in a solo cycling fundraiser.
Now with Stage 4 cancer, 47-year-old Gini Bourque has participated in the annual New Brunswick Doctors Cycling Against Cancer before but now she wants to support other patients like her.
Bourque believes you should keep moving when you have cancer and says being active helps her keep going.
“I’m super motivated by all of the people that are coming out to cheer me on and all of those who say they are inspired by me and they themselves are cycling because I’m cycling,” she says.
Her original fundraising goal was $2,000 but she’s already raised over $19,000 and counting.
Bourque is cycling 75 kilometres this week and each day she chooses a new route which is posted on her Facebook page.
Normally a group cycling event, this year’s was solo due to the pandemic and money raised goes to the Dr. Sheldon H. Rubin Oncology Clinic at the Moncton Hospital.
