As the Atlantic travel bubble comes into effect Friday, you can expect to see more traffic around the province.
That has the New Brunswick RCMP warning drivers to be more vigilant while travelling to their destination.
“We’ve been used to less traffic since mid-March and you get used to that kind of driving,” said Sgt. Mario Maillet of the Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit.
“With more cars, we’re really asking everybody to be more vigilant and also to be patient.”
Maillet said with more cars on the road, there will be delays in some areas, especially at the provincial borders.
He said officers are ready to deal with the higher traffic volumes at the borders and throughout the province.
“We’re all aware of the influx of vehicles coming in, so we’ll be out and about and making sure that everybody is safe on the highway,” said Maillet.
“Our usual message, and we stress that a lot, is to make sure that everybody is buckled up, don’t use your cellphones while you’re driving and definitely drive at reasonable speeds.”
Mounties said 14 people have died in collisions over the past 12 weeks. According to police, impaired driving, speeding and failing to wear seatbelts were contributing factors in the crashes.
