Canadian travellers could be able to get a tax refund on their summer travel expenses.
The Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick (TIANB), along with associations in other provinces, are proposing a $2,000 tourism tax credit.
Carol Alderdice, president and CEO of the TIANB, says this was one of several recovery measures laid out by the Canadian Tourism Industry Association.
“That was the one we thought could get approved the quickest because there’s no cash outlay right at the time, it wouldn’t be until next tax period,” she says.
Alderdice says not only will it incentivize Canadians to travel but also help tourism operators by attracting more tourists.
She says letters were sent out to all Atlantic Canadian MPs earlier this week and hopes it will get the ball rolling.
