A bridge collapse in eastern Nova Scotia has sent one person to the hospital.
Officials with the provincial transportation department say Tittle Bridge, a steel truss bridge leading to Durrell’s Island near Canso, collapsed as contractors were moving equipment on the site Tuesday.
They say one worker was taken to hospital for observation.
Alva Construction reps, who were recently awarded the tender to replace the bridge, were in the early stages of work when the collapse took place.
TIR officials say members of the local volunteer fire department are providing residents assistance on an emergency basis while they work to re-establish permanent access to the island.
They say the cause of the collapse has yet to be determined. Provincial labour officials have been notified.
