Moosehead Breweries and the Moonshine Creek Distillery are collaborating once again to support the community.
The two alcoholic beverage companies teamed up earlier this year to produce hand sanitizer amid a shortage caused by the pandemic.
Moonshine Creek co-owner Jeremiah Clark says they had leftover materials, known as heads and tails, and decided to create a rye lager virgin oak barrel-aged whiskey.
“When we distilled the beer to make the hand sanitizer, we had the heads and tails after our last distillation we didn’t want all of it to just go to waste and decided we would do a little whisky then got thinking it could be an opportunity to really give back,” he says.
Moosehead spokesperson Trevor Grant says they are currently in the process of distilling their limited edition ‘Community Spirit’ whisky.
Clark says they’ll be selling the bottles for $100 each and that all proceeds will be donated to food banks across the province.
While the spirit itself will be aged for three years, certificates for 500 bottles of the whisky can be pre-purchased online.
Grant says he’s heard some positive feedback from the community on the initiative and expects the bottles to go quickly.
