A Newfoundland and Labrador man will spend three years in prison following a child pornography investigation in New Brunswick.
Barry Austin Morningstar of St. John’s was charged with possessing and making child pornography in December.
The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to both charges in April and was sentenced in Saint John provincial court on Wednesday.
Police said their investigation began in August after receiving information from the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.
Morningstar, who was serving time at a halfway house in Saint John, had his statutory release suspended and an electronic device was seized by police.
As part of his sentence, Morningstar has been added to the National Sex Offender Registry and will have to submit a DNA sample.
Police said he will also have to follow several conditions for 10 years once he is released from prison, including not to be near children.
