Pedestrians will be taking over some uptown Saint John streets again Saturday.
Open Streets will take place on Germain Street from King to Princess streets, and the top of Grannan Lane from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
It is part of a pilot program to support local economic recovery and social rejuvenation during the pandemic.
“Explore your favourite spots, grab an ice cream, dine in the open air, shop, take in an activity hub, or simply relax in a pop-up ‘chill zone’. Whatever you come for, you will enjoy the experience of uptown Saint John with extra space to properly physically distance,” said the city in a news release.
Local businesses and restaurants can expand onto the sidewalks and streets to offer residents and visitors new experiences.
According to a city spokesperson, more than 1,000 people took part in the first Open Streets event on Canterbury Street and Grannan Lane last weekend.
The pilot program is expected to include additional weekend street openings this summer, facilitated on a rotating street basis.
