The province has rolled out a new action plan to help New Brunswickers living with a disability.
The chair of the Premier’s Council on Disabilities says extensive consultation was done to improve recommendations for the province.
Randy Dickinson says the plan has big potential.
“This plan has the potential to set a new stage for New Brunswick, and to bring us into the next period of the future which will definitely include opportunities for people with disabilities.
He says improving life for residents living with a disability also helps improve life for all New Brunswickers.
“If we do (follow the action plan), it’s not just helping people with disabilities, it’s reducing the dependency of people on government support systems,” Dickinson said.
He says that by putting in accessibility measures for people with disability, businesses can improve their market share and appeal to wider demographics.
“If your facilities are barrier-free to customers with disabilities, you can also employ people with disabilities. It’s a win-win,” said Dickinson.
Dickinson said the report involved consultation with many different groups and communities.
