Police are combing a Nova Scotia community for a man wanted for attempted murder after he attacked an officer.
Bridgewater police say a senior officer was sent to the hospital after responding to a domestic assault call at the Bridgewater Hotel on High Street on Monday night.
The officer was struck in the neck with an edged weapon and sustained serious injuries. The suspect then fled on foot.
Both the officer and female domestic violence victim were transported to the hospital. The victim was checked for minor injuries and released shortly after.
Tobias Charles Doucette, currently residing in Bridgewater, is charged with the attempted murder of a Bridgewater police sergeant and assault on his common-law partner.
Doucet is described as a First Nations male in his 30s, 6’2″ tall, 220 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing no shirt, no shoes, and black shorts.
An emergency alert was sent out early Tuesday morning saying police and K-9 units are searching the south end of town and noted he is suspected to be in backyards and wooded areas.
The South Shore Regional Hospital has gone on lockdown due to the situation and is limiting access to those with appointments and those in need of ER services.
Police are asking residents to stay in their homes as they search for the suspect.
