Collecting contact information from patrons of restaurants, pubs and other entertainment venues in New Brunswick has been clarified by the provincial government.
The measure took effect on July 9 when the province’s state of emergency mandatory order was renewed.
The information collected would be used for COVID-19 contact tracing but there were privacy concerns.
Venues are now asked to collect contact information from only one person in a group who knows how to contact everyone else.
The guidelines include collecting minimal information, making sure it is properly secured, sharing it only with Public Health when asked and it must be destroyed after 21 days.
A venue must post a notice near its entrance as to why it is doing so.
This measure also applies to anyone who hosts, organizes or allows gatherings of 50 or more people.
