No apologies from the Trudeau government for not allowing the Toronto Blue Jays to play home games in Canada during the pandemic.
Health Minister Patty Hajdu tells us the team had a plan which “involved a lot of cross border travel in and out of Canada” without a quarantine plan, presenting a challenge for the government.
“It was completely different from the NHL plan which as you know chose cities within Canada so they wouldn’t be interacting and crossing the border in this frequent way which the MLB was proposing,” explains Hajdu.
The health minister admits it was a difficult decision but believes it was the right one adding “I think Canadians also agree that their health and safety really matters during this time and that we need to be doing everything we can to protect their…health and safety.”
The Blue Jays are going to play their home games in Buffalo. They begin their season tonight with a road game in Tampa.
