Patty Hajdu is warning young people that they aren’t immune from the coronavirus.
The federal Health Minister says while many younger people may be relieved that cases are declining and the country is opening up, the pandemic isn’t over.
“For young Canadians, even though they may feel that they are at way lower risk of having an adverse experience of COVID-19, many young people are getting pretty sick. In fact, about ten percent of the 20 to 29-year-olds end up severely so,” she points out.
Hajdu says some people in their twenties are taking more risks and acting as if the pandemic is over, like crowding together and going to bars.
“Generally speaking, the trend of COVID infections follows the trend of finding ourselves in situations where physically distancing is impossible,” she says.
Hajdu adds the country is in the last phase of testing a COVID-19 tracking app.
