The hunt for Tobias Doucette is finally over.
The man accused of domestic violence and stabbing a police officer in the neck in Nova Scotia last week was arrested early this morning.
Nova Scotia RCMP tweeted shortly after 1:00 a.m. stating they had taken him into custody without incident.
Earlier in the evening, police reported a possible sighting of Doucette in the woods in Lunenburg County, which led to a heavy police presence.
This was the second time Doucette had been spotted by the public in the past few days. On Friday, a reported sighting led police and military to an undisclosed scene.
Although they did not find him, the presence of bare footprints led the police to call the sighting credible.
Police were called to an incident at the Bridgewater Hotel at 11 p.m. on July 20 where police say Doucette allegedly assaulted his common-law partner.
Doucette is also accused of stabbing BPS officer Matthew Bennett, who was responding to the domestic disturbance call made by hotel staff, in the neck.
He fled the hotel and when last seen he was only wearing a pair of shorts, no shirt and no shoes.
His common-law partner received minor injuries in the attack, and was released from hospital.
Sergeant Bennett underwent surgery in Halifax and is now recovering from his injuries.
Attempts to locate Doucette were unsuccessful until he was spotted in the LaHave River Tuesday afternoon. When police tried to apprehend him, a K-9 dog sustained injury before Doucette could escape into the woods.
K-9 dog Fergus is also recovering from his injury at home.
We have reached out to the RCMP for comment but have not heard back from them yet. We will release more information as it becomes available.
