A community-led mental health support group has found its home.
Melissa Morgan needed more mental health support and decided she would create “Stronger Together”. But, she was having difficulties finding a place to hold the meetings.
“Stronger Together is going fabulously. The feedback and the support that I’m getting is unbelievable in Saint John,” said Morgan.
“I’ve had a couple people reach out about locations but I went into contact with a lady named Amanda who owns Kick Basics Health Studio in Saint John on Coburg Street and she’s opening her doors so that we can hold our weekly meetings there.”
Morgan originally created the group because she felt Saint John didn’t have enough mental health resources.
“She was working tirelessly herself at trying to get a mental health thing for her kickboxing studio, she kind of wanted exercise and mental health as a unit and so she’s looking forward to growing this as part of what she offers too, so we’re going to work together to see if we can’t make something beautiful really come together,” she said.
The group meetings have moved from Thursdays to Mondays, and the location can hold more than 20 people.
“I never even knew that it was a dream of mine until it’s been happening and now it’s just making it my baby and I just want to help as many people and touch as many people as I possibly can,” she said.
“Because like I said there’s not a lot of resources near Saint John and I just feel like this one is going to be a big one and I can help a lot of people.”
Stronger Together will be holding a meet and greet barbecue on Monday at their new location.
Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided to adhere to Public Health requirements.
