A Quispamsis intersection which was the scene of a fatal collision will not be turned into a three-way stop.
Two men died when their vehicle left the road at Model Farm Road and Meenan’s Cove Road on June 18.
Dr. Brian Garland wrote to council asking that a three-way stop be considered for the intersection.
In his letter, Garland said, “many drivers are going faster than they should be at this location.”
“I have personally experienced issues at this site,” wrote Garland.
In a report to council last week, town staff said neither they nor police have had any complaints or collision history about the intersection until now.
“The approach speeds as posted and sight distances for the posted limits are appropriate,” said the report.
Gary Losier, the town’s engineering director, said while the crash remains under investigation, it appears the intersection had nothing to do with it.
“I did speak with the police and they’ve expressly said that the configuration of the intersection was not a contributing factor [in the crash],” said Losier.
Council voted not to install a three-way stop at the intersection at this time.
