Monday marks two years since a mass shooting in Fredericton claimed the lives of four people, including two city police officers.
Const. Sara Burns and Const. Robb Costello were killed while responding to a call of shots fired on the city’s north side on Aug. 10, 2018.
Civilians Donnie Robichaud and Bobbie Lee Wright were also killed in the shooting outside an apartment complex on Brookside Drive.
The shooting sent shockwaves across the country and devastated a province which, four years earlier, saw three RCMP officers killed and two injured in a shooting in Moncton.
Matthew Vincent Raymond is charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the Fredericton shooting. He has a fitness hearing set for next week.
Thirty-nine years ago, Fredericton police lost another member in the line of duty – 35-year old Cst. Perley S. Calhoun – who was killed during a training exercise.
In memory of the three fallen officers, they dedicated the Fredericton Police Force Honour Roll on the ground floor of our headquarters. The permanent memorial pays tribute to the ultimate sacrifice they paid during service with the department.
