As kids prepare to head back to school, now is a good time to make sure they have masks.
Every student will have to bring a face mask to school daily, but masks won’t be required inside the classroom.
Infectious Prevention and Control Physician Dr. Gary Garber said it’s important to wear it correctly.
“When you seeing someone wearing a face mask and they have it below their nose, that’s incorrect and not achieving the goal of preventing ourselves from touching our face and preventing the virus from beading out,” said Garber.
He noted the importance of hand-washing.
“It’s also important to wash your hands before you put the mask on and after you take it off. Too often what I find is people have a mask on, they haven’t washed their hands, but they’re constantly adjusting their mask. Just by the mere action of touching their face with hands that are not clean, they’re putting themselves at a greater risk of getting an infection,” Garber said.
Garber said reusable masks should also be cleaned daily while single-use masks should be thrown away after use.
