The Progressive Conservative campaign focused on internet connectivity on Friday and how it has played a critical role during the pandemic.
PC leader Blaine Higgs says remote doctor visits became common during COVID-19, universities are transforming to offer online courses this fall and in the K-12 school system, kids are joining their classmates virtually.
Higgs promises to extend and improve rural internet by partnering with the private sector.
“We have planned to increase rural broadband speed in over 70,000 households to 100 MBps over the next three years.”
Higgs also mentioned a goal of having a provincewide 5G network to fuel innovative technologies like artificial intelligence and robotics.
To make it a reality, he adds carriers are going to have to collaborate and government will have to create the right environment to entice private sector investment.
