According to the provincial Liberals, the Progressive Conservative government had access to $673 million in federal funding for infrastructure projects but most of that money (78%) has been left on the table.
Speaking in Riverview on Monday, Liberal leader Kevin Vickers says now is the time to invest when the economy is suffering due to the pandemic.
“We don’t want to become the five-and-dime province, we want to be there at the front showing proudly what we are and what we are capable of accomplishing,” noted Vickers.
He wasn’t specific on what projects a Liberal government would invest in but he did use water and sewer upgrades up north as an example.
Vickers notes how other Conservative governments in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario have been able to work with the Trudeau government to support infrastructure projects but the former PC government didn’t.
He claims PC leader Blaine Higgs did not negotiate in good faith with Ottawa.
