The province’s chief medical officer of health is making changes to visits to long-term care facilities.
Effective immediately, Dr. Jennifer Russell says designated support people such as family members are being re-introduced as part of a resident’s team.
Off-site visits will also be allowed again as long as proper precautions are taken.
“We recognize that many residents have not had the ability to have close contact or leave their facilities since March,” said Dr. Russell. “It was important for us to ease these restrictions to meet the needs of the residents and their families while continuing to protect our most vulnerable residents.”
If the province returns to the Red or Orange levels of recovery, restrictions on designated support people and off-site visits may be reintroduced.
In addition, Dr. Russell is introducing COVID-19 testing for international and out-of-province students.
International students must self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival and will be tested on the tenth day.
Testing will be voluntary for other Canadian students.
