Chadwick Boseman, the 43-year old actor best known for playing King T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther, has died.
In a statement on social media late Friday evening, the actor’s family revealed he had been battling colon cancer since 2016.
Boseman’s family said many of his most recent appearances, including in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods, occurred between chemotherapy sessions and other recovery procedures.
The actor was also well-known for playing iconic roles as Jackie Robinson in the 2013 biopic 42, and James Brown in 2014’s Get On Up.
